In the foreground, the new Brindle Road bridge appears to be complete, and its approaches are being finished. As soon as it is ready for use the old bridge, in the middle of the picture, will be demolished to make way for a new bridge carrying the roundabout at the M61 interchange. One of the abutments of that new bridge is already being built, and its steelwork has arrived on site - it can be seen to the left. In the distance, concrete is being pumped up to the deck level of the viaduct to pour the deck slab.
