Gorton Brook culvert, view east (see all photos of the same view)

The underbridge at Gorton Brook is complete; now a black waterproofing membrane is being fitted ahead of it being covered by earth to form an embankment. Beyond, two facing slopes of the motorway embankment are complete and have already been grassed over. The embankment between them is not yet to full height in the middle; new material to add to it has arrived and is piled up in the centre.

The forever bottleneck, part 1

The M4 into London was one of the UK's earliest and most ambitious motorway projects. It was bold, pioneering... and almost instantly regretted.
