M6 interchange, view north (see all photos of the same view)

The whole of the future M6 and A6 interchange complex can be seen here. At this stage the A6 interchange has not yet been modified, but topsoil has been cleared to both sides of the motorway. The new link roads alongside the M6 will be carried on high embankments and the space required for them can be clearly seen.

What's new

A century of motorways

It's 100 years since the opening of the world's first motorway, the Autostrada from Milan to the Lakes.

Schrödinger’s speed limit

In 2022, Manchester City Council say they reduced the speed limit on the Mancunian Way to 30mph. But it’s not clear if they did. It’s not even clear if they can.

Road numbering is a system with clear rules. What happens when the people responsible for numbering roads don't follow them?

Aust to Beachley

Today two motorways cross the Severn near Chepstow. But as recently as 1965, the only crossing was a ferry that carried six cars at a time, from Aust to Beachley.
