Scheme outline
A "comprehensive" upgrade scheme for M42 junction 6. The exact nature of the upgrade works are unclear at this stage but it appears that Highways England are planning something very substantial.
This interchange connects the motorway to the A45, a major road between Birmingham and Coventry, and provides access to the National Exhibition Centre complex and Birmingham International Airport. It is also planned to be the location of a major interchange station on the High Speed 2 rail line.

Option 1 announced as preferred route to provide a new 2.4 kilometre dual
carriageway link between the Clock Interchange and an all movements junction allowing north and
south access to the M42 north of Solihull Road.
The new dual carriageway would be to the west of Bickenhill and would generally be below
ground level and pass beneath the B4438 (Catherine de Barnes Lane), near Bickenhill and
towards the M42. In addition free flow left turns will be constructed at M42 Junction 6.
