A96 Dualling Huntly-Aberdeen

Scheme outline

Construction of a dual two-lane expressway to replace the existing A96 between Huntly and Kintore, west of Aberdeen. The project includes construction of a new bypass to remove through traffic from Inverurie.

No preferred route for this road has yet been selected; as of late 2019 there are two competing options for each section of the project.

This scheme is part of the A96 Dualling Inverness to Aberdeen programme of works.

Options for dualling the A96 between Aberdeen and Huntly will go on display from next month. A number of potential routes have been developed to dual the 26-mile section between east of Huntly and Aberdeen. A series of public exhibitions are being held from October 8 for a week to let the public and road users see and comment on these proposals at Huntly, Inverurie and Blackburn.

On the A96 East of Huntly to Aberdeen section, Transport Scotland have narrowed down design options. Those that included the existing A96 Inverurie Bypass and the offline southern route between east of Huntly and Blackburn, which passes through the Bennachie Special Landscape Area, are amongst the options that have been removed following initial design and assessment work and also drawing on the feedback received to date.

The BBC are reporting that Transport Scotland have narrowed down the options for the Aberdeen Huntly section.
