A52 Grantham Southern Relief Road

Scheme outline

Construction of a new road around the southern edge of Grantham, from a new interchange on the A1 to the existing A52/B1176/B6403 roundabout near High Dyke. The new road will be a mix of single two-lane and dual two-lane road, with three intermediate roundabouts in addition to those at each end.

The road is split into three phases:

  1. West from the B1174 to a point just short of the A1
  2. The interchange with the A1
  3. East from the B1174 to the A52 at High Dyke

Phase 1 was completed in 2016. Work on phase 2 is due to begin in summer 2019, and phase 3 will follow after that.

The new road is intended to provide relief to Grantham town centre, removing through traffic which currently follows the A52 through the town, and opening up land to the south of the town for development. Two of the road's new roundabouts do not connect to existing roads and exist solely to provide access to adjacent plots of land.
