A5020 Crewe Green Link Rd (South)

Scheme outline

A new dual carriageway road that will link to the completed single carriageway University Way, forming a link between the A534 and the A500, and creating an eastern bypass of Crewe.

It will link to a roundabout on the A500 Hough and Shavington Bypass that was provided when that road was built, but which has until now not connected to anything.

12 October 2014

Railway bridge works commenced. This is the only significant piece of infrastructure in the whole scheme and therefore an early start is essential to meet the completion date.

17 February 2015

The railway bridge is now being constructed ready for installation. From the looks of it, it is to be pushed into position complete with its end piers. The new road is dual carriageway, so the bridge is fairly lengthy.

18 March 2015

The rail bridge is to be installed at Easter 2015. Work to complete the road is apparently well in hand for the expected opening date.

7 April 2015

The rail bridge was successfully rolled into position over the Easter weekend in a 52 hour operation. So sometimes major civil engineering jobs do proceed in accordance with the plan!

22 December 2015

The road was opened by the Transport Secretary, Mr McLoughlin, on 21st December.
