A256/A299 East Kent Access improvements

Scheme outline

The East Kent Access improvements will see almost five miles of the A256 and A299 upgraded to dual carriageway. The scheme will improve the A256 between the end of East Kent Access Phase 1, at Richborough, and the A256/A299 junction at Lord of the Manor, Ramsgate; and improve the final section of the A299 Thanet Way, between Minster Roundabout and Lord of the Manor.

3 October 2009

Main construction works for East Kent Access are due to start in October 2009 with the scheme expected to be completed in late 2012.

2 October 2011

The A256 Sandwich Road is closed from 29th September until 16th December from The Lord of the Manor Roundabout and traffic is diverted along a newly built road from the just installed Cliffsend roundabout to the west of the village.

27 May 2012

The £86m East Kent Access Road was officially opened by transport minister Norman Baker on 23rd May 2012.
