Improvement work to six junctions around the Castlefield area of Manchester, centred on the junction of the A57 Regent Road and the Manchester and Salford Inner Relief Route. Capacity for motor traffic will be improved and routes for pedestrians and cyclists will be enhanced.
The aim of the work is to increase capacity on Regent Road and in the area where it enters Manchester city centre, partly as a result of reductions to road capacity on the parallel A6 Crescent just to the north. The intention is now that traffic that used to use the A6 to reach the city centre will in future use Regent Road.
The six junctions to be upgraded are:
- Dawson Street/Regent Road/Trinity Way/Water Street
- Regent Road/Ordsall Lane
- Regent Road/Oldfield Road
- Mancunian Way/A56/A5067
- Trinity Way/Hampson Street
- Hampson Street/East Ordsall Lane/Middlewood Street
