Provision of a new junction 10A on the M20, and associated A2070 link road, to provide improved access to South Ashford.
The new junction will essentially form a single junction complex incorporating the existing junction 10, with two interlinked roundabout interchanges.
The new link road will be dualled and will meet the existing A2070 at a signalized T-junction.
Following the autumn spending review, the DfT has stated that it will seek to improve the design and sequence of work for this scheme.
This scheme was missed out in a round of transport funding allocation and locals now fear it may not go ahead.
A public consultation on the scheme will run from 14 January 2016 until 17 March 2016.
The Planning Inspectorate issued a report of recommendation to the Secretary of State on 01 September 2017. The Secretary of State has 3 months in which to issue a decision.
Works are commencing with road closures due in place from late February 2018
Trees have been cut down on both sides of the M20, and the hard shoulder is closed off with cones in both directions for a mile after Junction 10 coastbound.
Signs have appeared on both carriageways advising that work begins on April 30 and will run until "Summer 2020".
The M20 is down to 2 lanes in each direction with a 50mph limit and average speed cameras installed for the duration of the works. A 40mph limit on the A2070 will also remain in place until 2020.
The M20 will be closed overnight on the 24th - 25th November to allow installation of the new footbridge at Kingsford Street. The closure will be between Junctions 9 and 11 coast bound and Junctions 10 and 11 London bound.
The new bridge is replacing the Highfield Lane bridge which will be demolished in spring 2019.
The M20 will be closed on both directions at the Junction 10A site on two weekends, 11-14 and 25-28 January, from 10pm Friday to 6am Monday, according to press reports. This is to allow the two bridges that will form the Junction 10A roundabout to be put into place.
The second of the two bridges was installed this weekend, finishing a whole day ahead of schedule and allowing the M20 to reopen on Sunday morning.
Work has now begun on building the approaches to the pedestrian footbridge. The speed limit heading coastbound has also been raised from 50mph to 60mph.
The A2070 near Junction 10 will be closed this weekend to allow installation of the new Church Road footbridge, according to local press.
Proposals have been made for work to be done on the junction on Sundays and Bank Holidays, according to local press.
The sliproads on the eastern side of Junction 10 will permanently close on Monday 5 August (coastbound entry, Londonbound exit) according to local press reports. Until Junction 10a is opened, traffic will have to use Junction 9, turn around and use the two remaining sliproads for Junction 10.
The closure of the eastern M20 junction 10 slip roads has been postponed.
It has been reported that the link road to the existing A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road, as well as the two coastbound slip roads are set to open on 31st October. Permanently closing the coast facing slip roads at the existing junction 10 will happen at some point after this date.
The Dover facing sliproads opened today. Their counterparts at Junction 10 are due to be permanently closed on November 11 to allow work to finish off the London facing sliproads at Junction 10a, with an expected opening date of a December.
Work is also due to begin in the A20 to connect it to the roundabout, with the Londonbound lane at Hythe Road being closed for five weeks from November 2. Traffic will use Junction 10a and head towards Junction 10 on the A2070 to rejoin the A20.
The coast facing slip roads at Junction 10 were permanently closed last night (13 November). Traffic wishing to exit Londonbound or join Coastbound must now use Junction 10a.
All slip roads are open at Junction 10a and the new signs have been installed on the M20.
The speed limit through the roadworks has been lowered back down to 50mph due to a fixed safety barrier being removed by Highways England. This should be in place for a month or two before the motorway returns to 70mph.
