Scheme outline
Upgrade of the existing single carriageway A9 to provide a dual two-lane road between the north end of the existing dual carriageway at Glen Garry and the A889 at Dalwhinnie. The work will form part of a wider programme that aims to dual the A9 all the way from Perth to Inverness.
This part of the A9 dualling works is one of the most heavily constrained by environmental concerns, and threads between numerous sites of scientific interest, conservation areas and protected sites. In terms of layout, however, it will be almost remarkably simple. The 12.2km (7.6 mile) dual carriageway will have no junctions at all except with the A889 at the northern end of the scheme, as it encounters no other roads, but may need to include minor access points to tracks and for access to maintain nearby power infrastructure.
This scheme is part of the A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness programme of works.
