Construction of a new single two-lane road around the north and west of Congleton, linking the A534 Sandbach Road to the A536 Macclesfield Road. Connections will be provided to the A54 Holmes Chapel Road, A34 Manchester Road, Back Lane and a new link road to Congleton Business Park. A total of six new junctions, all simple roundabouts, will be built.
The road is intended to alleviate congestion in Congleton and is effectively a bypass for the town, but is also intended to open up new development sites to the north of the town.
Graham Construction have been appointed by the Council to deliver the Congleton Link Road. Main works are to start in March 2019.
Construction started today 25th February 2019 with a small ceremony attended by Jesse Norman MP, Transport Minister, local MP Fiona Bruce, and Cheshire East council leader Rachel Bailey. Expected to open in late-2020.
Tree felling is under way. New fences have been installed across fields and some excavation work is taking place where the A34 crosses the new route.
