Scheme outline
Improvement works to Thickthorn Interchange, the junction where the A11 and A47 cross on the outskirts of Norwich. The A11 is the trunk road linking Norwich with London, and the continuous dual carriageway from London effectively terminates at this junction on the A47 Norwich bypass.
The junction's present configuration is a grade-separated roundabout interchange, with the A47 passing over the top of the roundabout. Highways England now propose to construct a pair of free-flowing sliproads connecting the A11 to the south and the A47 to the east. The main roundabout, the smaller Round House Roundabout to the north and the short section of A11 between them will also be subject to capacity improvements.
This scheme is part of the A47 Corridor Improvement programme of works.
