Widening of the A28 Chart Road in Ashford to provide a dual two-lane road between the Tank Roundabout at Carlton Road and the Matalan Roundabout at the B2229 Brookfield Road. The A28 north from the Tank Roundabout to the M20 already has two lanes in each direction and this section, connecting that dual carriageway to the Great Chart Bypass, is now a bottleneck.
The scheme will see a second bridge across the railway to carry southbound traffic, some turns in and out of side roads prohibited, and improvements to the roundabouts at each end and to the junction of Loudon Way.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2018, with the work complete by autumn 2019.
The scheme is to be delayed due to disagreements over who is paying for it. This could mean that despite trees having been fell in preparation, the actual roadbuilding may not begin until later this year or next year.

According to local news reports, the scheme may be further delayed until 2020 or until the construction of 400 homes at Chilmington Green, the developers of which are due to help fund the A28 works.
News reports say Kent County Council have been in talks with Hodson Development, who are behind the Chilmington Green housing development, to secure funding for the road scheme.
The same article also quotes an Ashford Borough Councillor as saying the delay on this scheme was a bonus due to other roadworks taking place around the town at the same time as the original start date, and the scheme could start next year instead.
The scheme has been delayed until at least 2022, according to local news reports.
