Upgrade of the existing A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty to dual two-lane standard, with provision of two new grade separated junctions. This will complete a gap in the existing dual carriageway that currently forms a major bottleneck.

Transport Scotland has announced its preferred route for the road.
Transport Scotland is now issuing Compulsory Purchase Orders for the land the new road will require, even though the statutory process is not yet complete. The start of work has been set back two years to 2010.
Local inquiry is due to start on 18 August 2009.
A local newspaper quotes the Transport Minister as saying a final decision is expected by the end of the year.
In a news item released today, Transport Scotland has confirmed that this project will now definitely go ahead.
According to the Infrastructure Investment Plan released today, this project will be combined with the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route into a single package for the purposes of funding and delivery.

The official start of construction was marked by a visit from the First Minister on 16 February 2015, according to the Transport Scotland website.
Opening has now been delayed from Spring 2017 to Winter 2017/2018, according to the Scottish Government.
The northbound carriageway has now opened, albeit in a contraflow configuration. Completion of the AWPR project as a whole is expected autumn 2018, with the Balmedie - Tipperty section likely to open in the summer.
Balmedie to Tipperty section will be fully open from Wednesday 15th August 2018, according to the BBC.
This road fully opened to traffic this morning.
