A890 Strathcarron to Balnacra 2 August 2015
Widening the existing single-track A890 between Strathcarron and Balnacra to provide two traffic lanes. The scheme is also likely to involve realignment of the road away from the sharp bend at Coulags Bridge.
This work will connect with the A890 Balnacra to Lair Improvement.
A90 Dundee Northern Relief Road 29 June 2015
A new northern relief road from the A90 west of Invergowrie to the A90 north of Dundee, which is expected to take approximately 50% of through traffic from Dundee's existing bypass, Kingsway.
A full upgrade of the existing A90 Kingsway to expressway standard is also being considered as an alternative.
A82 Glen Gloy Improvement 15 June 2015
Realignment of a section of road that was weakened in heavy rain in November 2011.
As reconstruction of the road that suffered the landslip would entail a lengthy closure of the A82, Transport Scotland are instead building an entirely new section of road further back from the river, which also eliminates two tight bends.
A82 Tarbet to Inverarnan Upgrade 18 February 2015
Improvement of a 10-mile section of trunk road alongside Loch Lomond, subsequent to the existing Pulpit Rock improvement scheme.
The existing road is narrow and has an extremely poor alignment, running along the steep shoreline of the loch and constrained by the adjacent railway.
Options being considered are an on-line improvement of the existing road; a new road just inland of the railway; or an entirely new line to the west linking to the A83 at Arrochar.
A77 Maybole Bypass 6 January 2015
Construction of a new single two-lane road, with additional climbing lanes on hill sections, to carry the A77 trunk road around the west side of Maybole. At present the A77 passes along the High Street of the town, which is extremely narrow, and through a railway bridge which has limited height clearance.
The new road bypasses the town and also a significant length of existing road to the north-east. It will incorporate three new roundabouts; one at each end to tie in to the existing route and one at the junction with the B7023. There will be no other junctions.
A96 Haudagain Improvement 30 December 2014
Improvement in capacity at the junction of the A90 and A96 in the suburbs of Aberdeen, which is presently a flat roundabout that is operating above its intended capacity.
A short new link road will be built between the A90 to the south and A96 to the west, through the Middlefield area of Aberdeen, to allow traffic to bypass the junction, removing some traffic flows from the roundabout.
The work will commence after completion of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route in 2018, at which point the north-south route through this junction will no longer be the A90.
A861 Drynie Hill Improvement 17 December 2014
Online widening of a short stretch of single track road with passing places, situated in Moidart, in order to improve access and reduce journey times. The existing road will be upgraded to a 5.5m wide single carriageway between Kinacarra (Kinlochmoidart) and the top of Drynie Hill at Captain Robertson's Cairn.
In order to allow the works to proceed, the road will be closed to all except emergency vehicles on weekdays from 9 January 2012 until 4 April 2012. The work is scheduled to finish in June 2012.
M876 Glenbervie Connecting Roads 7 October 2014
The aims of the scheme are to improve local access to the M876, to improve access to the newly-opened Forth Valley Royal Hospital, and to reduce local congestion in and around Larbert. The scheme involves upgrading J2 of the M876 to allow additional access to and from the A9 Stirling Road, through the provision of two slip-roads.
A77 Symington and Bogend Toll Improvements 7 October 2014
The aim of this scheme is to improve safety along a 7.3 km stretch of the A77 between Kilmarnock and Prestwick by closing thirteen openings in the central reservation and converting the two existing at-grade junctions at Symington South and Bogend Toll (B730 junction) to grade-separated junctions. Many of the remaining junctions and accesses onto the A77 along this section will be closed. The existing alignment of the A77 will be retained.
A96 Fochabers and Mosstodloch Bypass 5 February 2012
Construction of a new single carriageway route to bypass the towns of Fochabers and Mosstodloch, currently one of the most notorious bottlenecks on the road between Aberdeen and Inverness. The bypass will pass north of Fochabers and south of Mosstodloch, using the existing bridge over the River Spey.
A75 Cairntop to Barlae Dualling 15 October 2010
A830 Arisaig - Loch nan Uamh 16 June 2009
Widening of the existing A830 from single track road to two-lane single carriageway, partly on-line and partly off-line, providing a well-engineered and safe route. This will eliminate the last single-track trunk route in the United Kingdom. The rest of the 'Road to the Isles' has already been upgraded, with the previous section finished in 2003.
