Widening of existing M6 to four lanes each way between the new junction 11A where the M6 Toll will merge in and junction 20 for the M56 and Manchester. This scheme was widely criticised as inadequate - by the time works were to be completed traffic on the M6 was likely to require more than four lanes.
This scheme has been cancelled in favour of Active Traffic Management (hard-shoulder running).
