Improvements to Redbridge Roundabout, the junction at the southern terminus of the M271. At present this is a grade-separated roundabout, with an east-west flyover serving through traffic between the A33 and A35.
The current proposals will see one of the roundabout's pedestrian subways closed and filled in, a new footbridge provided and new signalised pedestrian crossings installed across the eastern side of the roundabout and the sliproads to and from Southampton. This will create space for the roundabout's carriageway to be widened and for a dedicated free-flowing left turn to be installed from the M271 towards Southampton Docks. The remaining pedestrian subway will be improved to provide a more pleasant environment.
