Construction of a section of viaduct to replace this particularly narrow length of road (with 30-year-old 'temporary' traffic signals) with a new, modern road.
This scheme was completed in and we're no longer accepting updates or changes to this page.
Traffic-light controlled section has been temporarily extended to allow for investigative work in preparation for final design.
Draft orders were published today.
A formal "Decision to Proceed" was enacted today. Construction is expected to take 12 months, with complete closure for ¼ of that time.
The procurement process has now started.
Most of the new viaduct section is now in place, but still a lot of work to do with the tie ins and so on, let alone surfacing.
Convoy system is still in use. The top surface appears complete, but barriers are still to be constructed.
Upgrade is now open to two-way traffic.
