Hereford Bypass 2 August 2018
Construction of a new single two-lane road to the west of Hereford, connecting the A49 to the north of the town with the A465 to the south-west.
The preferred route for the bypass was announced in July 2018 after a consultation exercise in late 2017. The route will include two intermediate junctions: one at the A4103 Roman Road, and the other at the A438 Kings Acre Road.
A45 Toll Bar End 5 June 2017
Replacement of the existing signalised roundabout with a new grade-separated two level junction, providing a free flowing route between the Coventry Southern and Eastern bypasses, A45 and A46. The A45 will also be widened to three lanes to the west as far as Stivichall Junction.
M40 J12 Improvement 23 May 2017
The aim of this scheme is to increase the capacity of M40 J12 in order to relieve congestion. Currently, a problem arises during the morning rush-hour when queues of up to 2km can form along the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway - most of this traffic is heading for the Jaguar Landrover and Aston Martin sites at Gaydon.
The scheme involves widening and lengthening the southbound sliproad at J12 of the M40. Capacity improvements will also be made to the junction with the B4451, along with traffic control measures.
M5 J4A-J6 Smart Motorway 6 April 2017
Upgrade of the M5 between junctions 4A (the M42) and 6 (Worcester) to Smart Motorway, including variable speed limits and all-lane running. Work to upgrade the central reservation to concrete step barrier along this section was completed in 2014. Enabling works and site clearance began in August 2015, with main construction beginning in January 2016. As such this scheme has a relatively imminent completion date, due to the recent completion of the ancillary works.
A500 Etruria Widening 23 March 2017
Widening of a section of the A500 between Porthill (at the junction with the A5271) and Wolstanton (A527) to provide three lanes in each direction. These junctions are close together and a significant volume of traffic uses the A500 to join at one and leave at the other.
The finished layout appears to have two through lanes in each direction, as at present, with the new third lane separated from the others by solid white lines. This suggests that the new third lanes will provide a dedicated link between the two junctions, segregated from through traffic.
A50 Uttoxeter Junctions 26 June 2016
Improvement works to the A50 at Uttoxeter. The works will take place in two phases, being delivered by Staffordshire County Council on behalf of Highways England.
The first phase involves construction of a new grade-separated junction west of the town that will provide access to new housing developments and improve access to the JCB factory.
M42 J6 Improvement 3 May 2016
A "comprehensive" upgrade scheme for M42 junction 6. The exact nature of the upgrade works are unclear at this stage but it appears that Highways England are planning something very substantial.
This interchange connects the motorway to the A45, a major road between Birmingham and Coventry, and provides access to the National Exhibition Centre complex and Birmingham International Airport. It is also planned to be the location of a major interchange station on the High Speed 2 rail line.
A5124 Shrewsbury North West Relief Road 29 April 2016
Construction of a new single carriageway road to link the A5/A458 Churncote roundabout west of Shrewsbury with the A528/A5124 Battlefield roundabout to the north, and thus complete a ring road around the town. A new viaduct would be built to carry the road over the River Severn and its floodplain.
